Jackson’s Journey by Heather Pearson

5 Stars from me ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

What a life-affirming delight this book is!

The absolute joy of real life screams from these slightly futuristic pages – the author has captured the very essence of dysfunctional family life and somehow turned it into a thing of beauty.

There are so many truly fabulous characters in this epic story and I really feel like it would make for a brilliant dramatisation. I could see this being one of those ‘British TV Dramas’ – think along the lines of The Lady in the Van, obviously with Sheridan Smith playing Rebecca.

This isn’t my usual genre at all and yet I absolutely loved it and would highly recommend to anyone 🙂

Blurb: A New Scotland Adventure! The year’s 2035 and New Scotland’s latest viral star, Edinburgher Jackson Campbell, has not only failed to fledge from his unionist parent’s luxurious nest, he’s made dysfunctional co-dependency his brand.

When the New Scottish Government launch another initiative to further democratise Highland ownership, Jackson’s whipped into a live-streamed adventure by the Green First Minister and New Scottish Broadcasting Corporation. What his collaborators don’t know is Jackson’s hiding a lie; a lie the Make England Great Again campaign would relish using to undermine everything New Scotland stands for.

As Jackson travels from Holyrood to the tiny Isle of Eigg, his conscience and popularity grow. But when the road ahead runs out, Jackson faces a choice. Which comes first; a small, sparkling nation or his huge, fragile ego?
