My Husband’s Lies by Liz Lawler

4 Stars from me

Always a pleasure to open a blog tour! Just going off of the title I had anticipated what this book would be about but it took me by surprise on several occasions and the story had many a diversion within its pages.

As well as being an unnerving thriller, My Husband’s Lies dwelt upon the age old question of whether we really ever truly know another person. This is certainly the case for Kate, the character we follow throughout the story, who has to ask herself that repeatedly!

Life for Kate and Mark goes quite rapidly from seemingly perfect to the stuff of nightmares and the revelations keep on coming while Kate struggles to make sense of everything she hears. Somehow she has the wherewithal to embark on some sleuthing although that doesn’t entirely help and seems to create more loose ends.

Meanwhile Mark’s friend Robert and the ever helpful Olivia inveigle their way into the daily life of Kate and her son. Before she knows it, Kate is relying on them and finds it hard to imagine coping without their ever present support.

But who can she really trust?

I found myself increasingly questioning Kate’s decisions and didn’t find her to be a particularly likable character, her motivations and priorities are interesting shall we say.

Suffice it to say, despite my best efforts I didn’t guess where the book was leading and fell for several red herrings in this well plotted tale.

My thanks to Sarah Hardy, Bookouture and Liz Lawler for letting me be a part of this blog tour.

Blurb: The police are coming, they’re going to arrest me.’ My blood runs cold at his words. My husband is accused of murder. He swears he is innocent – so why won’t he tell me where he really was that night?

I feel so lucky to have my handsome husband Mark and our blue-eyed little boy. Everyone says we’re the perfect family. I used to believe them.

But everything changes when Mark comes home from a work trip with dark circles under his eyes. That night I jump at a hammering at the door. The police want to question him about the murder of a beautiful, blonde young woman. Mark swears he had nothing to do with it, that she was a colleague, nothing more.

Mark is a respected airline pilot, and the model husband and father. It seems impossible that he would be involved in something like this. But he won’t say a word about where he really was. I believe that he’s not a killer – but I know he’s hiding something. It wouldn’t be the first time.

Then my husband is attacked. I sit by his hospital bed praying for him to wake up, tears streaming down my face. The police say it’s an accident. But what if someone has done this to him?

I go rigid with fear when I see someone hidden in the garden, watching the house. Are they coming to hurt us too? I’ll do anything to protect my precious little boy – and I have to start by uncovering my husband’s lies…
