Count to three… This intelligent crime / psychological thriller had me intrigued from the first few pages and I greatly enjoyed this first book in the Laughton Rees and Tannahill Khan series.
Rees’ reluctance to get involved was almost painful but once she was on board the book really flies and I loved the clever use of mixed media woven into the story, and enjoyed the excerpts from Laughton Rees’ book. Although I couldn’t help feeling it was inevitable that a book detailing forensic crime scenes would eventually be mis-used by a criminal to ensure a lack of incriminating evidence.
Dark Objects has a good mix of deeply character driven narrative with a deep focus on Laughton Rees and what has made her into the person she is today, and a fast paced and high-profile criminal investigation.
