This is one of those psychological thrillers where the blows just keep coming. Just when you think it’s hit the peak – another twist circles your ankles and drags you back under!
I ‘read’ this one on audio book and must confess that, now I’ve got my head around listening to books, it definitely enhances the story. And if the narrator is good – like Adam Sims who narrates the Eddie Flynn books – there are whole series that I will now only read on audible.
Samantha Hayes has absolutely captured the ‘oh god what else can possibly go wrong’ vibe of the genre and then taken it up a notch. I truly was gripped.
My thanks to the author, Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Blurb: A child is missing. But I stole her first…
I sit little Mila down at my kitchen table with a glass of milk and a plate of cookies. She smiles shyly at me and I reach out to ruffle her hair.
Leaving her alone for a moment, I dash upstairs, closing my eyes as I take a deep breath. What have I done?
Mila isn’t my child. I should never have taken her home. But what choice did I have?
Painting a smile on my face, I head back down to the kitchen.
But when I reach the table, my blood turns to ice. The back door is open, and Mila is gone.
I need to find her. I need help. But who’s going to believe anything I say when I’m the one who took her first…?
