The Starlet and the Killer Gossip Column by Lisa Hall

4 Stars from me

So good to be back with Lily and co as they waft around Tinsel Town hobnobbing with the stars of yesteryear, all the while casually solving murders!

This time there is some heat on Lily’s friend Tilda as a gossip columnist appears to be sharing some tidbits of information that step over the line of casual gossip and straight into the realm of blackmail and murder.

The Hollywood glamour oozes from within the story and it feels wonderfully decant to exist briefly in the world of the beautiful people from days gone by. This series brings a wonderful delicious back drop to a crime thriller and it is an absolute treat to read a story set in this time. Lisa Hall absolutely brings this world to life in glorious, glamorous, glitzy technicolour.

Lily is once again thrust in the danger zone and throws caution to the wind as she feels duty bound to find and stop the killer. There’s less of the ‘will they won’t they’ vibe with Louis in this book, and more of a concentration on the crimes.

As the series goes on, it feels less and less likely that Lily will ever seek to return to her own time – which, as I say that, reminds me that this is essentially a time travel story, but it doesn’t feel like that when you read it. The timeslip element is such a teensy little side detail – somehow – which doesn’t at all detract from the whodunnit element of these books.

My thanks to the author and Zooloos Book Tours for my place on this tour and in the extravaganza of all things Lisa Hall! This is the final book in the series, so far; and I’ve loved them all:

Mysterious Double Death of Honey Black by Lisa Hall

The Case of the Singer and the Showgirl by Lisa Hall

The Strange Disappearance of Kitty Fox by Lisa Hall

The Starlet and the Killer Gossip Column by Lisa Hall

Blurb: Sticks, stones and MURDER…

Gossip is nothing new in Hollywood but when a new column takes the town by storm, rumours are rife. The mystery writer holds no punches, knows all secrets and seems dead set on taking people down. The studio system will stop at nothing to protect the reputation of its stars, but this is out of control. Careers hang in the balance.

When a beloved star is found dead in a pool, Tinsel Town is shocked. Was it an accident? A letter was sent a week before he died warning of misfortune but who sent it? And could it be connected to the mystery gossip column?

Lily will do everything in her power to uncover the truth, even if it means risking her own death. But can she unmask the poison pen author?
