In the Shadows by Jane Isaac

4.5 Stars from me

The fifth in the DCI Helen Lavery series, In the Shadows is gripping from the very beginning and doesn’t drop its pace until the very last page.

Having read and enjoyed many of Jane Isaac‘s other books I knew I was in for a treat with this one and safe to say I was not disappointed.

It was good to pick up with Helen Lavery again and find her immersed in a potential terror attack. As ever she gives 100% not only to the police force but also to the people she interacts with along the way. This is ability to connect is what makes her so good at her job. There is a full fishing net of red herrings oh so cleverly weaved into the story – I love that, as I am a bugger for trying to guess ‘whodunnit’ and Jane Isaac makes that damn difficult!

Another really good, engrossing story with interesting characters and excellent pacing.

My thanks to Jane Isaac and Legend Press for letting me be a part of this blog tour.

Blurb: In the suburban town of Hampton, the peaceful night air is shattered with the sound of gunfire. Outside a local pub, five are feared dead and the murderer has fled the scene.

DCI Helen Lavery works along-side the counter terrorism unit to investigate. Who is behind the mass-shooting? Why target this town?

Meanwhile, Helen is preparing for the trial of Chilli Franks, an organised crime boss who has a grudge against her family. But when Chilli’s nephew befriends her son, and suggestions are made about Chilli’s involvement in the shooting, past fears clash with the present.

Under the spotlight of the world’s media, Helen finds herself in a race against time to solve the case, protect her family and track down the killer before they strike again.
