Wool gets 5 stars from me without hesitation. What a fab book.

I’m urging my son to read it now (he’s 13) as I think it is one of those books that will be equally well received by a different generation; and I think he would come at it from a different viewpoint to mine and end up loving it for all different reasons.

I found the imagery conjured up while reading to be vivid and unstoppable, from very early on I could see this book would make epic film. A few tweets with the author confirmed that the film rights have been snapped up and I am very keenly anticipating it hitting the big screen.

The story is all too believable and I think that is what sucks you in, along with the incredibly descriptive prose and the unfolding story line. For a lot of the book each chapter sits with a different person and I found myself racing through the pages to read what happened next.

I found it incredibly hard to put this book down and blame it whole heartedly for all the things I was late for last week!

There are some very strong key characters and I find it odd to see a review from someone else who has stated they ‘didn’t connect with anyone enough to care’, I can only assume they were reading a different book! There are plenty of back ground characters in the story but the main characters stand out from the crowd and make their presence felt.

It’s difficult not to imagine yourself in the shoes of some of the characters, with a little soul searching as you contemplate whether you would go with the flow or have the courage of Juliette.

I loved Hugh Howey for the little Q&A at the back of the book, the last question made me smile and realise that he’s got a sense of humour and for all his brilliance comes across quite humble.
