L O V E D I T !
Having read and enjoyed previous books by Miranda Rijks I leapt at the chance to read The Visitors. I’m so glad I did! This book is pure unadulterated entertainment and I literally couldn’t put it down – I read and read and (apart from the occasional call of nature and refilling of the coffee pot) read until I had finished!
It is a standalone story – no need whatsoever to have read any of her previous books (although, you should anyway because they are all fab).
The story centres around the life of Hannah and her family and the holiday let business that Hannah has just launched. This is a sort of pipe dream of mine too, to have a little holiday let business – although I don’t think I would like it actually next door to my house and having read The Visitors I’ve more or less gone off the idea entirely! What happens in this book is exactly (ok, well not ‘exactly’) what my overthinking mind imagines would happen to me!
Hannah is one of life’s good guys, she is considerate and loving mother, she is a devoted wife and she has an entrepreneurial flair which she has channelled into her music teaching and her holiday let.
Life, however, is not a respecter of the goodness of one’s character when it decides to start dishing out shitty situations and poor Hannah finds herself knee deep in the stuff when her second set of holiday makers arrive…
Added to which, her husband seems to be away more than ever and she has to juggle life and the ‘holidaymakersfromhell’ pretty much singlehandedly. That sounds bad enough but believe me it gets worse!
I couldn’t put this book down – it is a brilliant read and I highly recommend it.
My thanks to Miranda Rijks and Emma from Damp Pebbles for letting me be a part of this blog tour. As I received the book for free (in return for an honest review, as above) I have taken the opportunity to make a little donation to Miranda’s fundraising page for Sarcoma UK – you can do so too if you like.
Blurb: She offered them a place to stay. They wanted so much more.
Hannah’s life is almost perfect. She’s a full-time mother to two young children and married to successful cardiologist Daniel.
The only thing missing is a project of her own. So she has poured heart and soul into converting their stone barn into a beautiful holiday rental.
Things take a dark turn when visitors Mike and Nadia come to stay. They are noisy, dirty and disrespectful. Hannah is incensed by their behaviour, worried they may wreck her lovingly restored barn.
But she gradually realises that property damage is the least of her worries. Nadia and Mike aren’t here just for a holiday – they have a deeper, darker purpose, one that threatens to destroy Hannah’s entire life.
Spiralling into a nightmare that grows worse with each passing day, Hannah has to find the courage to fight back. But Mike and Nadia are clever and ruthless and they know something that Hannah doesn’t – a shocking secret from the past…
Thanks for kicking off the blog tour today xx
Thanks very much for reviewing The Visitors and your awesome review! So happy you enjoyed it 🙂
